WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES

  This package updates the BIOS (including system program and Embedded
  Controller program) stored in the ThinkPad computer to fix problems,
  add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.

  If Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit version has been installed on your
  system, use the BIOS Update CD for the BIOS update.

  This program is language independent and can be used with any
  language system.

CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE

[Important updates]
  Nothing.

[New functions or enhancements]
- Support for ICH8 revision B2.
- Support for Intel AMT Management Engine Region Firmware Update
  Utility version 2.6.4.1034 (or higher).

[Problem fixes]
- The error, "0191 System Security-Invalid Remote Change requested."
  may occur at the power-on.
- Some CardBus and IEEE 1394 devices may slow down the performance.

DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue
     ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area
     of the screen, press the F1 key.
     The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed.
     If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  4. Check the BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version.
  5. Turn off the computer.

NOTES

- If you update to the BIOS version 2.07-1.08 or later, you are not
  able to get back to the older BIOS versions.

- If you use Windows Vista, before applying this BIOS into the system,
  you should install Windows Vista KB 937500. The information of
  KB937500 is located in the following Microsoft's site.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937500/en-us

  To verify if KB937500 is installed properly,
  1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  2. Find 'Programs and Features' and click. If this option does not
     exist on the window, choose Classic View to find it.
  3. On 'Tasks' pane, click on "View installed updates".
  4. Verify that KB937500 is included in the list of installed updates.

- This package does not work on Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit systems.
  Use the BIOS Update CD for BIOS updates for Windows Vista 64-bit
  systems.

UPDATING THE BIOS

Notes:
- If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to
  update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer
  to the Version Information section.
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS.
- If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port
  replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM
  (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment.

Attention:
  Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been
  completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS,
  THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.


Manual Update

  1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the target computer.
  2. Start Windows Vista 32-bit, XP, 2000 and logon with
     administrative privileges on the target computer.
  3. Double-click 7luj19us.exe to extract it to your hard drive.
     The default location is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7luj19us
  4. For Windows Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select
     Accessories, then click Run...
     For Windows XP, click Start, then click Run...
  5. Specify WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you saved the
     package, then click OK.
     Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7luj19us\WINUPTP.EXE
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  7. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the
     screen.
  8. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message
     'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'.
     Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer.


Unattended Update

  This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS
  is updated without any user interaction.

- Refer to the Manual Update section, and download and extract the
  files.
- At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -S option.
  Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7luj19us\WINUPTP -s

  To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at
  the same directory of the package.

INITIALIZING BIOS

  BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize
  the BIOS settings:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue
     ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area
     of the screen, press the F1 key.
     The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed.
     If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
  5. Select Yes.
  6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
  7. Select Yes.
  8. Restart the computer.

  Note:
  After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you
  had changed previously.

         Docking Station of Config in BIOS Setup menu.
         *Note:
         A serial and a parallel port on the Mini-Dock will be
         disabled with this setup.

 - (Fix) Looks like system hang after continuous Fn-F7 hitting in the
         BIOS Setup or DOS.

 - (New) Added the new error code 1830 to indicate that a single DIMM
         is not installed in the memory slot 0.
         Solution for the error code:
         With a single DIMM, install the DIMM into the memory slot 0
         (a slot different from having used it).
 - (Fix) Unexpected interrupts from the USB controller may occur.
 - (Fix) The system with NVIDIA graphics chip may cause hang.
 - (Fix) No video output during pre-boot with "Boot Display Device=
         ThinkPad LCD" and lid closed.

 - (Fix) A Bluetooth LED is On on the computer without the Bluetooth
         card installed.
 - (Fix) POST 1805 error due to unknown Wireless USB card
 - (Fix) The LCD brightness always becomes maximum level after Windows
         starts.
 - (Fix) On PC Doctor for Windows PE, Multicore test result with CPU
         T7800 system is fail.
 - (Fix) Blank display occurs when the system boots up with LID close,
         which an external display is attached.

         set to extended desktop mode with an external display and
         "When I close the lid of my portable computer" option in the
         power option is set to "Do nothing", and when the lid is

               is switched to the external display only, so icons on
               the desktop will be moved.
         (New) The extended display mode is kept and video output is
               not switched, so icons on the desktop are not moved.
 - (New) Function enhancement of capturing the BIOS configuration
         information on the computer by BIOS Settings Capture/Playback
         Utility.
 - (Fix) The data transfer rate of hard drive is slow in SATA AHCI
         mode.
 - (Fix) The computer may hang at the power-on if device configuration
         is changed in the BIOS Setup immediately after resuming
         normal operation from hibernation mode.
 - (Fix) An error may occur at the power-on after ThinkPad BIOS
         Settings for Windows runs and then the computer goes into
         hibernation mode.
 - (Fix) WMIMGMT.MSC fails to read properties on Windows 2000.
 - (Fix) (ThinkPad T61/T61p only) Volume and mute buttons on the
         keyboard do not work on Linux.
 - (Fix) (ThinkPad R61 only) Removed Intel AMT menu from the BIOS
         Setup:
         The Intel AMT menu is shown in the BIOS Setup on some models
         although the Intel AMT feature is not supported.
